July 7 to July 11, 2025
The City of Beacon Police Department offers this free week-long program for students entering grades 9-12, which provides an introduction to careers in law enforcement.
Our Youth Police Academy meets for a week each summer. Various locations, including Beacon High School, City Hall, and the Beacon Police Station, host the program. Field trips include visits to local training and emergency centers, and professionals and volunteers share their experiences in these careers. This is always a fun experience for all.
The academy's goal is to help participating youth understand the role police officers play in the community, the job duties performed, and the requirements of becoming a police officer. In addition, the program fosters relationships between the officers and the youth participants. This is accomplished with mock situations and lectures, field trips, physical fitness exercises, and games.
Additional opportunities for training have been added to our program in Stop the Bleed and Narcan for participants. Our instructors include Beacon City Police Officers. All instructors are certified and well-trained in their areas of instruction/expertise.
